With Football fever gripping the whole world, I thought of picking my top ten all time greats of this wonderful sport. Don't you think it is almost an impossible task to compile a list of only ten? But I have done my best and will appreciate if you give your views.
1) Pelé: I still consider him The Best. Players of Pele's stature are not born everyday. In total, he has scored 1281 goals in 1361 games. What an achievement!!!
2) Diego Maradona: Many of you may not agree with this choice only because of the bad post retired episodes of this charismatic player. His goal against England in 1986 where he dribbled 5 players for 60 meters., still considered to be the goal of the century.
3) Carlos Valderrama: This great footballer from Columbia deserves my list only because his tactical brain and he was a pioneer of creating mind boggling strategies reducing his running around to the minimum possible. Also, this one man was an inspiration for the youth of this tiny country Columbia.
4) David Beckham: Another extremely charismatic player who had ability to change the game on his own strength. Beside his expertise in free kicks and passing shots, he was also the best paid sports person of his time.
5) Brian Laudrup: Numbers don't make great players. Brian deserves this list in spite of a very short football career. Even Pele acknowledged his game. Just imagine, he played only 82 games scoring 21 goals and still managed to be in the list of great players. He would have done wonders if his career had not be shortened by multiple injuries.
6) Robert Pirès: Another French player regarded very high by the great Pele. He was player of the tournament in 2001 FIFA federation cup.
7) Michael Ballack: He was selected as the best football player of Germany three times. He was instrumental in taking Germany to 2002 world cup Final.
8) Gianluigi Buffon: The world's most expensive goal keeper!! And he is the only goal keeper to win UEFA club footballer of the year award.
9) Dennis Bergkamp: One of the finest players of his generation, Dennis was inducted into English hall of fame
10) Patrick Kluivert: He played for Dutch national team from 1994 to 2004 and scored 40 goals from 79 appearances.
